I rescued my best friend, Shiraz, three years ago from the Animal Humane Society in Minnesota. He was a bonded pair from Alabama. Unfortunately, earlier that weekend they had given Shiraz's best friend up for adoption and Shiraz was one of the last dogs that were still available.
I had no intention of leaving with a new best friend but when we met, I knew I had to make him part of my family. There were treats all over his cage, which showed that my always-hungry little guy was not in the mood to eat. After seeing Shiraz, we asked to take him for a walk. To this day, I have never seen him jump so high. He was so excited to get out of that cage. After the walk, we went into a glass room with him. He kept one paw up like he still does when he's nervous. He lacked excitement and curiosity. Thinking back, he wasn't himself. He was depressed and defeated.
Today, he is one of the most outgoing, people-loving beings I know. Shiraz has helped me on my journey through life. He has helped my dad find happiness in his battle with Alzheimer's and helped my mom overcome her fear of dogs. Shiraz has been a gift that was brought to me in the most unexpected way. He is my best friend and has changed my life in ways I could have never imagined. He is the inspiration behind every product we provide and we will never sell or endorse a product that we wouldn't give to Shiraz.
